Rael Isacowitz, a Pilates master for 25 years, here incorporates Pilates and his background in dance to produce sessions that will work for fitness veterans and beginners alike. Isacowitz's style is personal and hands-on. Each move is demonstrated on a student so the viewer is coached precisely and thoroughly. This is especially important for beginners but also provides useful reminders for more seasoned students. Attention is also given to the breath and spinal movement, which alleviates the opportunity for injury or overdoing a session. System 7 lays the groundwork by teaching the seven basic moves, proper alignment, and breathing techniques. System 17 adds ten more moves as well as modifiers to increase the difficulty. System 27 features 27 positions and provides a full-body workout. The format is the same for each DVD: Isacowitz coaches the participants and reinforces proper movement and breath. Each session ends with a relaxation pose. This versatile series is a good choice for any library. System 7 is a wonderful first step for older viewers wanting to start an exercise program, but it is also a nice stretching and toning daily enhancer for more advanced students or those who use other forms of exercise for their workout. System 27 will appeal to more advanced Pilates students looking for a change. This high-quality production is recommended.-Catherine Gilmore, NPS Pharmaceuticals, Salt Lake City (c) Copyright 2010.
