When Star Wars promoted Leia Organa from a princess to a general, it was also an affirmation for Carrie Fisher. If her initial celebrity was an accident of birth to Hollywood royalty Eddie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds, she earned the admiration of fans around the world all by herself, first as an actor and then as a screenwriter, novelist and mental health activist.
