Review by School Library Journal Review

K-Gr 2--This collection consists of six stories in one book. Nick and Nack are a cute partnership between a boy and a robot. The duo likes to play together and build things. They don't let anything go to waste and recycle most everything, including an egg carton, a milk carton, and empty tubes. Nick and Nack use these and other common household items, such as tape, pipe cleaners, a ruler, and scissors, to help them build a telescope, a boat, a kite, and puppets. They also make their own bubbles. Nick and Nack are a solid team, showing children that play can be fun and educational and serve an end purpose: building something out of nothing. The included projects appear easy for kids to do with some guidance, and the end of each story includes detailed instructions; readers and their caregivers will likely want to try at least one. Children might use one of the projects--perhaps the kite, the boat, or the telescope--to show their knowledge of scientific principles. This collection offers a fun respite from a workbook or simple reading, as each story asks readers to find hidden items in pictures throughout the stories. VERDICT A fun, interactive addition for any library.--Pamela Thompson McLeod
