The love lyric

Kristina Forest

Book - 2025

"Iris Greene used to be a woman with a plan. But all of that changed after she met the love of her life at twenty-four, got pregnant and married...and then became a widow and a single mother all within the span of a year and a half. Now, after years of hustling, Iris is the director of partnerships at a beauty company and mother to spunky five-year-old Calla. Despite her busy life, she still can't help but feel lonely. She just needs to catch her breath--and one night, at her sister Violet's wedding, when she steps outside to do just that, she sees a certain singer who takes her breath away. . . . By all accounts, pop R&B singer Angel Harrison has it made. He's a successful musician and has just scored a brand ambass...ador deal with an emerging beauty company. But he's still not fulfilled; he's not producing songs he's passionate about, and there's a gaping hole in his love life. When he visits the Save Face Beauty office to kickstart his campaign, he's shocked to see Iris, his stylist's sister--the beautiful woman he hasn't stopped thinking about for longer than he wants to admit. Despite their obvious attraction to each other, they must stay professional throughout the campaign tour-which doesn't quite pan out. But when it becomes clear their lives aren't in sync, can they fall back in step to the same rhythm and beat?"--

Review by Publisher's Weekly Review

Forest balances tenderness and heat in her captivating Greene Sisters series conclusion (after The Partner Plot). Recently widowed single mother Iris Greene devotes herself to motherhood and her job as director of partnerships at Save Face Beauty, a makeup company. Now the business is launching a new line and has chosen R&B star Angel Harrison as a celebrity brand ambassador. Angel, who employs Iris's sister as his stylist, has been crushing on Iris for years, but worries that she's not ready for a new relationship. When Iris is assigned to accompany Angel on a meet-and-greet tour, the pair are thrown into close quarters and their mutual attraction becomes too intense to ignore. Despite Iris's hesitations about Angel's celebrity lifestyle and involvement with her company, she agrees to date him if they keep things casual--though this proves easier said than done. Angel's patience with Iris is heartwarming, and their undeniable chemistry leads to plenty of steamy and swoon-worthy scenes. Readers will have no trouble rooting for their happily ever after. World-famous musician Angel Hughes has had a crush on beauty executive Iris Greene for several years, though they only met once. Iris, a widowed single mother, is surprised that a celebrity like Angel remembers her when they see each other again--and is even more surprised when he asks her out. Iris shoots him down, unsure of how serious he is and is taken aback when she hears his new song, which is clearly about her. A tour sponsored by her employer reunites the pair, who have every intention of remaining professional despite their palpable attraction and forced proximity. Career considerations, along with the vast differences in Angel and Iris's daily lives, make a long-term relationship between the two seem improbable. Iris can scarcely picture the megastar in the life she shares with her daughter, while Angel is uncertain of how they'll overcome a host of substantial obstacles to reach the love he believes they can have. VERDICT Charming and poignant, this third novel featuring the Greene sisters, after The Partner Plot, is recommended for all public library collections.--Nicole Williams

A single mom falls for an R & B singer. Iris Greene never expected to become a widow shortly after getting married and having a baby, but she worked hard to make a life for herself and her daughter, Calla, in her husband's absence. Five years after Terry's death, Iris is the director of partnerships at Save Face Beauty, a makeup and skincare company. Even though she feels lonely sometimes, she can't imagine letting another man into her life--she doesn't have the time or the energy to find her perfect match. But then she meets Angel, one of her stylist sister's clients and an up-and-coming singer. When Angel is named the latest celebrity brand ambassador for Save Face Beauty, Iris has to spend lots of one-on-one time with him as they travel around the country on a meet-and-greet tour. Angel also feels like there's something missing from his life--even though he's massively popular, he's not passionate about the music he's making and he'd love to be able to share his success with someone special. As he and Iris work together, it's clear that their chemistry is only growing stronger. But Iris needs her job, and she can't risk appearing unprofessional by developing a relationship with the company's ambassador. Both Iris and Angel have to decide if it's worth the risk to go after what they really want--in their careers and their romantic lives. Forest continues her Greene Sisters series with this charming installment. Iris and Angel's relationship develops slowly and satisfyingly, with real, adult complications instead of miscommunications. A sweet and sexy romance that hits all the right notes. Copyright (c) Kirkus Reviews, used with permission.
