K-Gr 3--As a father gets ready to enjoy the day watching soccer, his daughter reminds him that they had planned an outing together--to walk to the top of a nearby mountain, part of St. Lucia's Pitons. As they begin their climb, the daughter is bursting with excitement, while her father wonders whether they have arrived yet or if they should go back. As they move higher up the mountain, the pair is astounded by the beautiful plants and animals they encounter. When they stop to enjoy the view, the daughter finally begins to grow tired, but the father is now full of his daughter's excitement as he carries her up the rest of the way to witness the beauty all around them. This vibrant picture book mostly features Spanish text with St. Lucian Creole included throughout, as father and daughter chat together on their adventure. Exquisite illustrations overflow with greenery, with some parts of the mountain illuminated with light, while others feature the cooler shades of the journey. This lovely picture book shows readers that an ordinary day can always become extraordinary. The characters have brown skin. The father has cornrows in his hair. A short glossary of Creole into Spanish, including pronunciation guides, is featured in the back matter. VERDICT Highly recommended for Spanish-language collections, this title poignantly depicts the loving relationship between father and daughter as well as the beauty that can be found in nature.--Selenia Paz
