First-time caller

B. K. Borison

Book - 2025

"Aiden Valentine has a secret: he's fallen out of love with love. And as the host of Baltimore's romance hotline, that's a bit of a problem. But when a young girl calls into the station asking for dating advice for her mom, the interview goes viral, thrusting Aiden and Heartstrings into the limelight. Lucie Stone thought she was doing just fine. She has a good job, an incredible family, and a smart, if slightly devious kid. But when all of Baltimore is suddenly scrutinizing her love life-or lack thereof-she begins to question if she's as happy as she thought. Maybe a little more romance wouldn't be such a bad thing. Everyone wants Lucie to find her happy ending...even the handsome, temperamental man calling the... shots. But when sparks start to fly behind the scenes, Lucie must make the final call between the radio-sponsored happily ever after, or the man in the headphones next to her"--

Borison (Business Casual) enchants in this delightful contemporary that pairs a burned-out radio host and a luckless-in-love single mother. Mechanic Lucie Stone's precocious 12-year-old, Maya, decides that her mother is lonely and calls Baltimore radio host Aiden Valentine's dating advice show, Heartstrings, hoping to find her a date. After Maya passes the phone to a blindsided Lucie, she and Aiden have a frank on-air discussion about love that immediately goes viral, leading to a radio cohosting gig for Lucie. Soon, half of the eastern seaboard is rooting for Lucie to find her happily ever after, with many of the show's callers trying to set her up. After a few disastrous dates, however, Lucie begins to understand that the love she seeks may be right in front of her. Lucie and Aiden are perfectly imperfect together and will have eager readers rooting for their romance. Quirky supporting characters--especially Lucie's dramatic ex-husband, Grayson, and his new husband, Mateo--add depth, while Borison's skillful plotting keeps the pages flying. This first-rate tale will resonate with true romantics. (Feb.)

Borison ("Lovelight" series) writes a superb Sleepless in Seattle--inspired romance. Twelve-year-old Maya is worried her single mom, Lucie, is lonely, so she calls into Aiden Valentine's romance hotline on a local Baltimore radio station to get some dating advice for her. Lucie walks in on the call and ends up reluctantly talking with Aiden live on the radio, sharing her romantic hopes. When the interview goes viral, the radio station hopes to capitalize on it and invites Lucie back on the show to help her find a date. While the dates go nowhere, her regular appearances in the booth with Aiden are getting cozier, but his jaded views on love make him keep an emotional distance. As they navigate expectations and a potential relationship, both grow through the process, and Lucie realizes she might just need to make her own magic. Borison excels at writing both steamy scenes and charming characters who show care for each other, including Lucie's supportive found family. VERDICT A wonderfully tender and sexy story full of swoon-worthy lines and perfect moments that will elicit smiles, sighs, and tears and keep readers thoroughly invested in the happily-ever-after.--Melissa DeWild
