"When Texas Ranger Will Kirkpatrick and his young partner, Jonas Peterson, were informed they were to man a new Ranger post in Sweetwater, they knew they'd have plenty of trouble on their hands. But even they didn't know how much they were in for. Their new territory encompassed much of the Texas Panhandle, including most of the Texas Caprock, the two hundred-plus-mile-long north-south escarpment separating the Llano Estacado from the lower lands to the east and south.
