The latest from Colgan (The Summer Skies, 2023) is a sweet novel set on the rugged northern isles of Scotland. Gertie is shy and a bit of a daydreamer. Her mother and grandmother raised her with help from the local KC (knitting club). When local airline owner Callum Frost catches Gertie's eye, it ignites a desire to get a job working at the airline, despite never having been on an airplane herself. During this time she also expands her inner circle to include an old classmate, pilot Morag. Gertie and Morag even become flatmates when they rent an apartment from Gertie's first crush, Struan. When a freak winter storm puts local children in danger, Morag, her team, and Gertie are the first to offer help. After their heroic efforts, Gertie and Struan realize that not only is her old crush renewed but it is also reciprocated. Readers will get the closest look at Gertie's development as she comes out of her shell, but they will be delighted to meet many interesting characters along the way. Debbie Macomber fans won't want to put Close Knit down.
