Cade Tremayne may not be related by blood to any of the other Tremaynes, but he has always felt like a part of the family. United by their special gifts, each member of the Tremayne family has found a way to utilize these unique talents in the service of king and country. Now Cade and his foster sister, Tamsyn, have been tasked with helping get the British ambassador and his wife safely out of France before Napoleon declares war on Great Britain again. At first, everything goes exactly to plan, but then Cade is captured by a dangerous French agent out for revenge. As Tamsyn works to rescue Cade, their mission becomes even more complicated once she realizes Cade has very real romantic feelings for her. Putney (Silver Lady, 2023) adds another brightly burnished addition to her Dangerous Gifts series with this strikingly written paranormal-tinged romance that makes superb use of its vibrantly etched Regency setting, expertly evoked characters, and exhilarating plot.

Peril and the paranormal come together in Putney's dramatic second Dangerous Gifts Regency (after Silver Lady). Tasked with escorting Britain's ambassador and his wife back home from Paris, Cade Tremayne, an adopted son of Lord and Lady Tremayne, is joined by his adoptive sister, Tamsyn, their oldest biological child, on the voyage across the English Channel. Cade and Tamsyn share powerful psychic abilities that tightly bond them together and help them get the ambassador and his wife to safety--but after France declares war on Britain, Cade is captured by French soldiers. Tamsyn refuses to leave Cade behind, and gets help from a similarly gifted French woman to find him at a chateau belonging to the villainous Claude Bastien, Cade's half brother. Claude tortures Cade both physically and mentally, taunting him with his repressed feelings for Tamsyn. Using her gifts, Tamsyn manages to lessen the impact of the torture and free her adoptive brother--but she's unprepared for an addled Cade to tenderly kiss her. Feelings awaken on both sides, but they are fearful of how their family will react to their romance. The taboo relationship will be hard to get around for some readers as well, but Putney makes the connection both mystical and sensual in nature. Meanwhile, the high-stakes foreign intrigue keeps the pages turning. This is a wild ride. (Dec.)
