Women of Marvel podcast cocreator and cosplay producer Stephens's book takes readers through the fun and entertaining world of Marvel cosplay. The book's 11 chapters are grouped into three sections: "Welcome to Cosplay," "Becoming a Marvel Cosplayer," and "Get Ready for Your Debut." The opening section documents cosplay's origins, subculture, expansion, and evolution. Stephens highlights six Marvel characters: Ms. Marvel, Captain America, Jean Grey, Ironheart, Loki, and Black Panther. There's an overview of each one and step-by-step guides (with images) that demonstrate how to create their costume. Using handmade, purchased, and/or upcycled items, researching characters, planning a costume (including budget and timeline), and sewing materials are all covered. Readers are also shown how to put the finishing touches on their look and prepare to attend a convention, including best practices for cosplay etiquette. Librarians should be aware of the pullout sections that note everything from contests to global Marvel cosplay. VERDICT A comprehensive, beginner-friendly guide to the exciting and creative universe of Marvel cosplay.--Whitney Bates-Gomez
