Introduction
I've never met someone who didn't like miniatures. There is something so inherently sweet - downright magical - about holding a teeny, tiny version of something you know so well.

I loved miniatures as a kid. I made dresses for my dolls out of socks, chairs out of recycled cardboard, and dinner plates from buttons. It was fun to look at ordinary objects and dream up ways to transform them into miniature creations. Because these creations didn't require much material, it was easy to make them from what I already had on hand. Digging through the recycling bin, there was always material to be repurposed. Every tiny scrap had potential.

This accessibility is what brought me back to miniatures as an adult. Fresh out of college and living in a tiny California apartment, I had neither the funds nor the space to design the home of my dreams. I wanted to create art and furniture - but each project required large amounts of materials and tools that I didn't have. By making furniture in miniature, I could explore hundreds of techniques and styles without running out of room or breaking the bank. It was limitless creativity in a tiny package.

Whether you're an experienced mini maker or just getting started, I encourage you to explore, get creative, and have fun. Use what you have on hand and take a peek at what you can recycle and repurpose. Introduce your own style to each of the projects in this book.

As you work through the makes, look for ways to customize and expand them. Bring your own style, color, and experience to each design. Apply what you learn here to the creation of any tiny object. After all, these projects are merely the beginning of your great miniature adventure.
