Strutt's (Simple Hand Sewing) delightful book provides crocheted patterns for baby gear. There are the usual beanies, booties, and sweaters, plus an adorable design for a dinosaur snood and one for a toddler poncho. There are also nursery items, including a star garland, baby blankets, pillows, and nesting baskets. A toy section contains patterns for pacifier clips, a ring rattle, teethers, and squishy balls. Each activity lists materials, instructions for customizing the pattern, and helpful tips to finish the project. The projects' skill ratings are either beginner or intermediate, so crochet newbies will not be intimidated. Measurements are given in both inches and metric, and there's a chart for converting UK to U.S. terms, along with a glossary of abbreviations. The book offers detailed drawings and instructions on crochet techniques. VERDICT A fun and simple book to add to fiber-arts collections.--Stacey Marien
