Given her past history, Rowan Winterbourne, living alone in a California lighthouse, has been very careful about her present identity. So when Joe Grantham turns up knowing exactly who she is, Rowan is immediately suspicious. As it turns out, she should be concerned, because Joe blackmails Rowan into accompanying him to Raptor Island to sidetrack crime lord Gregory Torval while Joe retrieves a valuable address book. Distracting Torval should be easy since he has been obsessed with Rowan ever since she eluded the kill order he issued for her family years ago. The challenging part for Rowan will be escaping Raptor Island alive before her past catches up with her. The plot of Dodd's (Forget What You Know, 2023) latest nerve-shredding suspense novel contains more twists and turns than a telenovela and a K-drama combined, and it is just as addictive. Pair that with a vividly etched cast of characters and deliciously acerbic wit to spare, and this is another sure bet from a master at inventively mixing suspense and romance.
