Review by Booklist Review

Kaminsky, a longtime angling and food writer (he wrote the "Outdoors" column for the New York Times for two decades), and his 72 contributors describe moments of angling glory and catches of a lifetime from around the world, nearly all in new essays. Many are witty. All are delightful, inspirational, insightful, and educational. Sixty-nine vivid color and nine black-and-white illustrations support the writing. Along with such well-known angling writers as Thomas McGuane, Nick Lyons, and W. D. Wetherell, Kaminsky includes equally eloquent writers who may be new to readers: Connelly Akstens finding trout in an allegedly troutless river, father and daughter George and Hannah Semler on an angling-literary road trip, cancer survivor Katie Cahn finding healing while pursuing Appalachian brook trout, and Argentinian angler and explorer Buby Garcia Calvo revealing a secret about fishing with the Eisenhower brothers. Kaminsky also includes essays by celebrity enthusiasts Brittany Howard, Carl Hiaasen, Rachel Maddow, and Roger Waters. Some events in the book may seem unbelievable. But if a person fishes long enough, they will experience their own amazing, seemingly impossible encounters even if they are not pursuing marlin in the Pacific or salmon in Russia.
