Review by Library Journal Review

Freelance writer and artist Gendron, who was diagnosed with ADHD in early adulthood, offers a detailed explanation of ADHD and the misconceptions that surround it. The author comments on who can diagnose ADHD and describes what an assessment can entail, from brain scans to other tests, clinical evaluations, and questionnaires. ADHD symptoms are broken down, categorizing behaviors from inattentiveness to hyperactivity/impulsiveness. Many people can experience symptoms that are not listed in the official Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. The author's experience after a diagnosis and finding support comprises a much-needed chapter. The content is excellent, but this book also stands out because the strategies and coping skills are presented in a fun and accessible cartoon format. This is an innovative and spot-on way to explain. An ADHD glossary of the terms used to describe what a person with ADHD can experience is exhaustive. The author also includes helpful hacks for overcoming ADHD-related obstacles. VERDICT Highly recommended for all libraries.--Charlyn Lyons
