Review by Booklist Review
Wolfie wakes up out of sorts, and things get worse as the day goes on. Nothing seems right to the small gray grump: it's too cloudy (one singular cloud floats in a sunny sky), the bathwater is too cold, his "glass of milk is half empty," and so on. Wolfie feels misunderstood and thinks everyone else is having a good day, although the humorous illustrations contradict this: squat Wolfie literally gets up on the wrong side of the bed, as his slippers are situated on the opposite side. He claims even his stuffed bear is having a bad day, though its bright eyes, smile, and happy demeanor don't agree. And the young wolf is disappointed he is found so quickly during hide-and-seek, not realizing his ears are clearly visible above the toy box. But when his classmate Penguin reveals through a drawing that he is also having a bad day, the two commiserate and Wolfie's bad day brightens into a delightful one for him and his new friend.
