Writing this intro was hard, but what isn't hard are the projects in this book. As a self-taught quilter who appreciates approachable and easy-to-follow quilt patterns, I'm beyond thrilled to share these projects with you.
Whether you're new to the craft or a seasoned quilter, I wanted to offer a well-rounded collection of scenic designs. So, I went all out (and everywhere) to deliver you a variety of modern, versatile quilt patterns using basic quilt blocks.
Speaking of variety, I included an illustrative guide on how to finish your quilts by machine or by hand. If you're like me, there are days when I prefer to do a bit of slow stitching and other days when I want to do a quick weekend project. This book covers both cravings and ensures you have everything you need to complete your quilt from start to finish.
When I first began quilting, I was struck by the therapeutic joy of sewing fabrics together to create a usable work of art. It's a wonderfully tactile craft that's both stimulating and soothing; a part of my life where I can be carefree, and where I allow myself to embrace mistakes rather than overanalyze them. On top of their mental health benefits, quilts also have a built-in reputation of getting passed down from one generation to another. It's a delight to see my very first quilts being used every day by my kids to keep them warm, for comfort, and to build forts with. I simply cannot recommend it enough.
All of the designs in this book are inspired by the diverse physical regions and lands that belong to the Indigenous peoples of California. It's a place my family and I enjoy exploring and learning from. I hope you find a design here that satisfies your wanderlust, or that reminds you of your home or favorite outdoor adventure. Most of all, I hope you enjoy these projects as much as I had fun bringing these designs to life.
