Review by Publisher's Weekly Review

Thick-lined cartoon apples and pumpkins debate which best represents autumn in Burton and Jean's well-rounded seasonal tour. "Everyone knows/ to pick apples at/ an orchard for fall," a cross red apple declares with a finger shake. A toothy squash retorts, "Apples getting taken?/ I'm afraid you/ are mistaken./ Everyone goes/ to pick pumpkins at the/ pumpkin patch for fall!" Further campaigning takes similar forms, with the opponents comparing their roles as comestibles (cider v. pumpkin spice drinks), sweet sayings, and resemblance to changing leaf colors. Foliage flutters through-out crisply captured scenes of the animated subjects, including two spreads of humans of varied abilities and skin tones enjoying activities. The festive banter adds up to a jolly portrait of autumnal symbols. All ages. (July)
