Review by School Library Journal Review

Gr 1--2--This title is a jaunt through the world of the Magic Mixies, an Australian animated online series. Sienna, the only human character among magical creatures called Mixlings, is lost in the secret world of Mixia. Her Mixling friends are helping her find a castle that will allow her passage out. Along the way, Sienna and friends find themselves in an enchanted rainstorm that must be stopped by partying, a cozy bunkhouse where an impromptu talent show helps one Mixling find its brave, and an escape room that ultimately unlocks by application of magical vomit. Finally the roving band finds the castle, and Sienna can go home. Screen-ready cartoon images heavy on pinks, purples, and teals accompany the text, but they mostly serve to muddle up a plot that is already short on narrative flow. Kids who are fans of the world of Mixia may be interested; others will probably only be confused. VERDICT Recommended only where the Magic Mixies web series is already popular.--Rachel Owens
