Review by Booklist Review

Kostovick is the creator behind the popular blog Finch + Folly about her life in rural Maine, and readers from all locations and backgrounds will find endless inspiration in her book debut. Written in four parts, it goes beyond a straightforward gardening book. Kostovick goes into detail describing how to use the bounty available within each season to create, make, craft, plant, and cook. Her reflections on spring, summer, fall, and winter are filled with an array of treasures to discover: companion planting, pollinator-friendly gardening, birdbath design, pickling techniques, and chicken care. She also shares her own awakening to the power of nature and how a change in perspective helped her to see the beauty in a late fall walk. Her reflections will inspire readers to look more closely at the world and find everyday magic. Vivid photography paired with page after page of recipes, craft ideas, and planting guides make this an inviting companion for creating your own magical backyard sanctuary and, for the curious, it provides a deeper dive into the benefits of gardening and homesteading.

Review by Library Journal Review

Seasoned gardener and Farmer's Almanac art director Kostovick has created an essential book brimming with gardening advice. The book's content is divided by seasons. For each one, there are tips and tricks for growing a wide variety of flowers and vegetables, including the best varieties of each plant to grow. The book also offers harvesting suggestions, recipes, instructions for drying flowers, storing herbs, starting seeds, collecting, and caring for houseplants. Every page of this book is filled with large, beautiful, truly inspirational photographs of the author's gardens. Kostovick's writing is straightforward, and this book is exceptionally well organized. VERDICT This is an excellent resource for all levels of gardeners to use to create their own dream grounds. An indispensable title for gardening collections.--Loni Wetherell
