Review by Library Journal Review

This art book acts as a balanced guide to self-help and self-expression. Having grown up with parents who encouraged artistic expression, the authors (who are sisters) share how art got them through school and work and shaped their lives in different ways. For example, art became a career for Powell; whereas for Moore, art served as a reminder that there's more to life than work. Readers will learn which paints to use, what to paint with, and what to paint on. They'll also dive into what it means to be an artist or someone who chooses to make room for art in their life. The book includes instructions on how to navigate those pesky sabotaging "scorpions," the little voices of self-doubt that everyone encounters. Throughout the book, the authors discuss their artistic influences and offer advice for how to best work through struggles in life and art. Of course, they also offer painting tips and exercises to encourage creativity and help readers develop their own artistic styles. VERDICT This book will appeal to artists of all experience levels or to readers who are interested in using art as a means of self-expression.--Brittany Fechtman
