Suited up in green fatigues, Commander Jeremy Sparkplug--aka Sparky--stands at the ready to school his new recruits on tanks. Sparky is also a horse, but who better to talk about horsepower? The cartoon illustrations and playful tone will easily draw in kids fascinated by vehicles. The first lesson explains what a tank is in a short paragraph placed against army grounds where several tanks rumble by, including a flame tank and a small model called a tankette. Here, Sparky is joined by Peggy, a unicorn in pink camo who is an ace gunner. The next four lessons are on the different parts of the tank, both outside and in, and clearly labeled diagrams ensure readers can visualize all the components from caterpillar tracks to turret.
