"Building can be hungry work. And sometimes, you just need to take a break and enjoy the fruits of your labor, whether that's a quick Baked Potato Bite while you're hunkered down, waiting for a creeper to quit skulking at your door, or creating a celebratory feast for all your friends with a Buried Treasure Pie! Minecraft: The Official Cookbook gives you everything you need to build awesome meals, no matter your skill level."--

Fans of Minecraft will enjoy recipes that are fit for beginners or experts alike. Over 40 recipes inspired by various aspects of Minecraft fill the pages of this cookbook, including recipes like Suspicious Stew, Torch Shooters, and Slimeball Tea. Each recipe lists what "player type" would benefit from it the most, as well as difficulty levels and dietary notes. Step-by-step instructions are provided alongside colorful photos of each dish, and vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options round out the list of recipes that are sure to be appreciated. Recipes are laid out in a straightforward fashion and occasionally offer "notes" on how to make the dishes or drinks unique. With this cookbook, parents of proficient Minecraft players will also be able to enjoy the fruits of their players' labor. VERDICT A fun and interesting cookbook from Theoharis (Break an Egg!: The Broadway Cookbook) with vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options that fans of the game will enjoy. Definitely a worthwhile addition to any library's cookbook collection.--Sarah Filiberto

Gr 9 Up--This title is designed for a Minecraft-playing audience, with recipes categorized by player type that inspired the recipe, e.g., Builder, Explorer, Inventor, etc. Many recipes are accessible, as they are gluten and/or dairy free, vegan, or vegetarian. Recipes are pictured with tempting food photography or Minecraft graphics. A basic tool list as well as kitchen survival tips, tricks, and key terms for recipes are included. Each recipe has a key indicating difficulty level, cooking time, player type, dietary notes, prep time, yield, and whether special kitchen tools are needed. While the recipes have Minecraft-related names like "Dragon's Breath," not all recipes are anything new, but are simply renamed. Nor are all the recipes designed to be cooked with supplies on hand, calling for items such as portobellos sized for steaks and truffle salt. With recipes such as "Survive the Night" soda pop with a shot of espresso, this is a title for older readers. For anyone looking to plan an Explorer's Picnic, Nurturer's Lunch Break, Builder's Brunch, Fighter's Feast, or Inventor's Brainstorm the plans are available. VERDICT A catchy title and guaranteed audience, but the checkout versus recipes cooked may be disparate. Not recommended.--Sarah Sieg
