Review by School Library Journal Review

PreS-Gr 2--In this distinctive picture book, educational games, puzzles and quizzes help prepare and engage children for school. Three animal characters, Jay the bear, Clementine the bird, and Nora the rabbit, appear on each page of the various activities; children are shown food items and have to guess if they are from an animal, a plant, or a tree. In another game, children try to guess whether Jay, Clementine, and Nora are happy, sad, silly, calm, surprised, or tired. Readers may be asked to guess which objects go together--for example, a mitten with a hat--or they may have to figure out what an item is used for. Bonenfant has introduced a unique concept of children learning through imagery, cognitive wordplay, and a variety of activities that will excite a child, eager to learn, to play all in one swoop. VERDICT A fabulous addition to any library collection catering to small children.--Annmarie Braithwaite
