Drizzt Do'Urden and his heroic friends embark on their most ambitious mission yet: liberating Menzoberranzan from the chaotic goddess Lolth and her followers in a civil war that could tear udadrow society apart. In addition to their powerful band, other udadrow families and the Blaspheme (restored driders) support their effort, with the slim possibility that some aevendrow from Callidae will be allowed to assist in their ultimate goal of converting Menzoberranzan into a peaceful, cooperative society like Callidae instead of the chaotic, back-stabbing Lolthian environment where Drizzt was raised. Each protagonist explores their willingness to risk everything and the value of their contributions to what may be a doomed effort, with personal goals pushing each of them even harder. Salvatore, through Drizzt Do'Urden's musings, masterfully explores the nature versus nurture argument in comparing the two drow societies and the sacrifices the different sides are willing to make in the epic conclusion to the Way of the Drow trilogy (beginning with Starlight's Enclave, 2021).
