The beautiful Yorkshire village of Keldale is scandalised by the gruesome murder of local farmer, William Tey. The Yorkshire police are obliged to team one of their investigators with a London Superintendent, which places well spoken Superintendent Thomas Lynley with the tricky and resentful detective, Barbara Havers.
