Flying runs in Morag McGinty's family. While working as a pilot for a commercial airline, though, Morag has a midair emergency that shakes her confidence. While on leave, she is summoned by her grandfather back home to help with the family business. Her grandfather runs an island-hopping air service in northern Scotland but has fallen ill and needs extra help. Morag tells herself that as long as she is copilot she will be just fine. Little does she know that she will be thrust into the pilot seat again when her pilot has a medical emergency and she has to land the plane in a storm on a tiny island. She stays on the island while the pilot is flown by helicopter to the main island for care. She seeks shelter with the only person on the island, temporary resident Gregor. While being stranded they grow closer, and Morag realizes that she cannot go back to her old life. Colgan's latest (after An Island Wedding, 2022) is full of imagery that will transport readers to northern Scotland. Fans of Jill Mansell will enjoy this one.
