The visiting author program is one of the targeted programs the ICCSD Foundation supports. In partnership with Hills Bank’s Community Reading Month, a book author is selected each year to visit the District and speak with students about their writing and experiences. This year's visiting author is Juana Martinez-Neal, a renouned illusrator/author who was born in Peru and currently lives in Connecticut. She is a New York Times bestselling illustrator, and the recipient of many awards, including the 2020 Sibert Medal for Fry Bread: A Native American Family Story, written by Kevin Noble Maillard, the 2019 Caldecott Honor for Alma and How She Got Her Name, and the 2018 Pura Belpré Medal for Illustration for La Princesa and the Pea, writ...ten by Susan Middleton Elya.
