Review by School Library Journal Review

PreS-Gr 1--Uni the unicorn is having fun playing sparkle ball with her friends Goldie, Silky, and Pinkie. Goldie notices a soccer game going on nearby and wants her friends to join that game with her. Though Uni feels shy and is reluctant to play with unicorns she doesn't know, she ends up accompanying her pals. They join the Blue Team and each one turns her horn blue, making it easier for readers to follow the teams' actions. Though Uni makes a couple mistakes during the game and is disheartened, she is the one who encourages Pip, the goalie, to remain in the game when he messes up and wants to drop out. "I messed up, too. But we cannot quit. We are a team!" This easy reader incorporates short sentences and simple vocabulary into an uncomplicated story. Colorful illustrations vary in size from full-page to vignettes and reflect the movements and emotions of the unicorns. VERDICT Though this tale includes unicorns, a soccer game, and teamwork, it ends abruptly, and there may not be sufficient action to excite readers enough to want a second reading.--Maryann H. Owen
