Siskind (the Showmen series) opens the Bower Boys series with this delightfully funny second chance romance, unusually told entirely from the hero's point of view. Ten years prior to the novel's start, Edgar Bower abruptly left his beloved hometown of Windfall, N.C., to enter the witness protection program while his father was prosecuted for money laundering. Now, ignoring some rules imposed by the U.S. Marshals, he's finally able to return. He's armed with a list of strategies to win back the only woman he's ever loved, his high school girlfriend Delilah Moon. But Delilah comes up with a strong defense to protect her heart from the man who once destroyed it by abandoning her without explanation: she pretends to be engaged, a fraud backed by the rest of the equally distrusting townsfolk. Edgar sees right through this deception, but he's careful not to push too hard, hoping to show Delilah his sensitivity and commitment. But their shared pain--and Delilah's life-changing secret--may prove even bigger obstacles to their second chance. Edgar's voice is humorous, passionate, and clever, offering a vivid and clearly lovestruck view of the heroine. This refreshing rom-com will leave readers eager for the next in the series. Agent: Maria Napolitano, Bookcase Agency. (Sept.)

Siskind's (The Knockout Rule) newest title is a gently heated romantic comedy sure to leave readers swooning for more. Witness protection program, false names, abandoned relationship--life can't get more complicated than that. Edgar Bower, aka E, walked away from Delilah, the teenage love of his life, years ago without any type of explanation when his family was put into witness protection to save them from the cartel his father was involved with. A decade later, E is surprised when he spots Delilah across a crowded airport terminal. Now that the cartel gone, E is finally able to reach out and try to right the wrong from that fateful day years ago. But is he too late to win her back? Told from E's point of view, readers will appreciate his true and honest voice. Side characters are well-developed and will easily transition to main leads throughout the remainder of the series. VERDICT Fans of Colleen Hoover, Alison Bliss, and Chelle Sloan will be drawn to this delightfully entertaining and insightful romance.--Shondra Brown
