Superman red and blue

Book - 2021

"The Man of Steel Stars in DC's New Superman: Red & Blue anthology mini-series! In the spirit of DC's iconic Eisner Award-winning Batman: Black & White anthology series, DC proudly announces Superman: Red & Blue, a new anthology mini-series presenting fresh new takes on the Man of Steel. Around the world, everyone knows that when they see a red and blue streak in the sky, it's not a bird...it's not a plane...it's Superman! Academy Award-winning writer of DC Future State: The Next Batman John Ridley joins artist Clayton Henry (Batman/Superman) to tell a story of Clark Kent as he confronts a villain who still haunts him, in a story that shows what Superman can mean to a whole country. Brandon Easton (...DC Future State's Mister Miracle) and Steve Lieber (Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen) take readers to the streets of Metropolis to show how one hero can mean so much to an individual in pain. Writer/artist Wes Craig (Deadly Class) tells a tale of Superman's early days and the man who inspired him to become the hero he is today! Marguerite Bennett (DC Future State: Kara Zor-El, Superwoman) and artist Jill Thompson (The Sandman, Black Orchid) give us a tale of teenage Clark Kent, while Dan Watters and Dani, the team behind Coffin Bound, bring us an outlandish fable about what happens when all colors are stolen!"--

What makes Superman super isn't his extraordinary power; rather, it's that even with that power, he remains a soul of committed kindness. It's not the super, if you will, but the man. Each of these 30 stories exemplifies that compassion and the journey to attaining it. Here's a lonesome boy meeting a puppy that will show him he's not alone. Here's a savior who is powerless to help a boy's mother but finds he's still a beacon of hope. Here's a superhero who saves a man and saves him again and again--and then is saved by him. Here's a sneaky romantic who plays matchmaker for an impish archenemy. Nor is wonder absent, as Superman shepherds a baby alien to a new home and, naturally, battles a giant robot or two. Inundated by superhero spectacle as we are, it's easy to lose sight of the humanity; these sometimes tear-inducingly powerful pieces exalt humanity, not just in their characters but in the gratifyingly idiosyncratic handiwork of the various storytellers and their wide range of styles bonded by the emotional luster of the title colors. This is important fiction, fiction that helps you think and feel more deeply, that--if you're open to it--inspires you to be better. After all, the light that shines from Superman illuminates what's best in all of us.
