Review by Booklist Review

Welcome to Dragon Talk highlights the fascinating history of Dungeons & Dragons and the multitude of ways it continues to impact the cultural zeitgeist. Mazzonoble and Tito are cohosts of the popular Dragon Talk and have expertly crafted this book of essays by mining their rich interview history. It brings a fascinating examination of the game--part historical survey, part airing of skeletons, part cheerleader. Early chapters discuss the complicated history of D & D since its creation in the 1970s by Gary Gygax--think satanic panic and bullying. Thankfully, the authors do not shy away from troubling aspects of the current state of play either. Specifically, in several essays there is an examination of how a D & D table can be dominated by white, mostly male players and dungeon masters. But it's that self-awareness and dedication to progress reflected in this book, and by the D & D community, that makes these interviews shine. This book will appeal to many different audiences and is accessible for those who have never played and want to learn why people love to talk about D & D.
