Nightblood

Elly Blake

Book - 2019

Ruby's world has changed more than she ever could have imagined. She's in love with a powerful Frost King. She's the heir to the Fire Throne. And she may be a Nightblood--the spawn of a vengeful deity hellbent on releasing an imprisoned army of shadowy wraiths. Once freed, these beasts will roam the earth, devouring the spirits of every last person until he or she is nothing but an empty husk. Ruby is able to control the shadows to a degree, even hosting one in her own body. But will this tenuous connection--which threatens to consume her--be enough to hold the beasts back? With time running out, she must bring Frostbloods and Firebloods together to make a stand against an immortal foe more deadly than any she's faced. A...nd the price of peace may be her very life.

Review by Booklist Review

Ruby is haunted by nightmares in this conclusion to the romantic and thrilling Frostblood Saga. She's barely slept since she took a cursed Minax spirit into her body, because when she does, she becomes a danger to herself and others. Her travel companion, ship's captain Kai, is as frustrated and scared as Ruby if that's possible. Ruby's nightmares seem to be hinting at something, but neither she and nor her lover, the Frost King Arcus, can decipher any meaning from them. His mission is to find the Gate of Light and seal it shut, so that no more of the demonic Minax creatures can walk the earth, stealing the souls of Frostbloods and Firebloods alike. The divided factions will have to close the gate together, though that seems less likely with each passing moment. This concluding trilogy volume offers a heaping helping of romantic tension as Ruby is torn between the king she loves and the captain her fireblood yearns for. Pick this up to complete the set, or to entice fantasy-romance fans.--Stacey Comfort Copyright 2018 Booklist
