Review by School Library Journal Review

Gr 4 Up--Pokémon fans of all ages will find something in this imaginative, thematic cookbook. The book is divided into sections based on regions of the Pokémon universe and the creatures who inhabit them. The recipes are based on a specific Pokémon's characteristics, color scheme, and type; for instance, a fire-type Pokémon's recipe might be spicy, while a ground-type recipe will be dense, rich, and filling. The recipes cover a range of dishes: desserts, appetizers, drinks, entrees, and more. They highlight a variety of cuisines and lesser-used ingredients, with a particular focus on Japanese cuisine. The book includes an ingredient guide. Special attention is paid to allergies and dietary preferences, with recommendations for recipe adaptations as well as a chart outlining dietary considerations for each recipe. Recipes are graded on a scale of difficulty ranging from one to four, though they seem to skew on the difficult side: Miltank Milk Bread, a yeast-based bread that combines two different doughs, is only rated a two out of four. VERDICT This innovative cookbook will appeal to Pokémon fans of any age; keep in mind that younger fans may need adult assistance with challenging recipes.
