PreS-Gr 2--Captain Cat and Pilot Matt build a spaceship and head to Mars in this follow up to Captain Cat and the Pirate Lunch. Captain Cat's new adventure takes him and his pal into space. Planning, building, and finally flying their spaceship to Mars, Captain Cat and Pilot Matt land safely and immediately meet a trio of sweet aliens, Zoof, Zeff, and Zatt. The new friends have a great time exploring the dusty craters of Mars, until a storm forces the crew to hunker down together. A strong wind blows the spaceship over, but the friends hammer and glue the ship back together so that Captain Cat and Pilot Matt can return home. This Ready-to-Read Pre-Level 1 book from the author of the "Pig in a Wig" series is a brief, easy-to-read story with controlled language. Much like its predecessor, this easy reader uses rhyming couplets, with a little onomatopoeia mixed in. VERDICT Not only a quick, accessible read, this is also charming for its humorous pictures and witty story.--Jennifer Miskec
