Gr 1--3--Las Tekis--Ada, Oli, and Kat--are inventors with tons of ideas, creating prototypes for robots and machines that wash your teeth and tie your shoes. One day they set their eyes on Mars and convert their toy pony, Purpurina, into a rover that they send out ahead of their expedition. When Ada goes after Purpurina and loses contact with Earth, Oli, Kat, and their robot Algoritmo go after her, traveling through space until they reach the red planet and are surprised to find Ada safe and sound and with some new friends! This lovely early graphic novel perfectly depicts brainstorming, as the Tekis contemplate numerous ideas and experiments and program their robot to perform tasks. It also illustrates troubleshooting and learning from trial and error when things don't go quite as expected. Hilarious illustrations are done in bold color, while close-ups, full-page panels, and spreads add to the exhilarating pace of the narrative throughout. The Tekis and their funny robot communicate through word bubbles, often making jokes and excitedly thinking out loud. This unique story will have readers itching to try their own experiments and create their own out-of-this-world inventions, while hoping for another visit to the world of the Tekis. VERDICT Highly recommended for Spanish early graphic novel collections for children.--Selenia Paz
