El murciélago

Elise Gravel

Book - 2021

Review by School Library Journal Review

Gr 1--3--The mysterious nocturnal bat will become much more familiar to young readers in this entry in Gravel's silly "Animalejos" series. Readers will learn all about murciélagos and their physical characteristics, habitats, diet, and hibernation, and how they communicate. Comically illustrated characters, such as bats, flies, a pig, a bear, and even a certain superhero look-alike, accompany the text, adding humor to the facts provided. Words often appear in bold colors and large font sizes, attracting readers' attention. The Spanish text is succinct, and the information featured is sure to interest children and adults. Information about the threats that have placed certain species of bats in danger of extinction is also highlighted along with valuable details on the many ways bats help the natural world. VERDICT Readers are sure to learn something new about bats in this fun and clever title. Highly recommended for Spanish nonfiction collections for children.--Selenia Paz
