El gusano

Elise Gravel

Book - 2021

"Los gusanos existen desde que los dinosaurios poblaban la tierra. Además, no ven porque no tienen ojos y ¡son muy buenos para la naturaleza! En algunas culturas creen que son deliciosos y se los comen, en otras piensan que son desagradables. En definitiva, cuando veas un gusano recuerda ser amable"--

Review by School Library Journal Review

Gr 1--3--A fun illustrative style that resembles a graphic novel suits this Spanish translation of Gravel's "Disgusting Critters" entry of The Worm. Short, informative paragraphs are accompanied by large, bold font that provides interesting (and revolting) facts about worms. General information is presented with more details included on the earthworm. The creatures featured often communicate via speech bubbles with funny commentary in response to the information given, something that will surely have readers laughing as they learn. The Spanish text flows easily and is clear with emphasis provided at the perfect moments. Readers will learn about the characteristics of earthworms and their benefits to nature and are encouraged to treat worms with respect and not to harm them. VERDICT Sure to attract readers interested in nonfiction and graphic novel-style books, this title provides a good introduction that will pique kids' interest and have them searching for more on the often ignored worm.--Selenia Paz
