Following the events of Playing with Fire (2021), Yoshi Lomax is interning at the Manhattan law firm of twins Aaron and Noah, who are friends of her parents. She is dating Troy, a young attorney at the firm, and all appears to be going well until--following an an evening of dinner with the partners and a client--Yoshi is drugged and wakes up in bed, naked and with no memory of what happened. Troy becomes violently angry with her, and the client now wants to date her, raising more questions about just what took place after dinner. Meanwhile, Yoshi suspects the twins of shady dealings and begins to look into what's really going on at the firm. Soon she's in the middle of a murder investigation. The plot zooms along agreeably in this rapidly paced, surprise-filled thriller, and Yoshi is a flawed but appealing heroine trying to get beyond a life littered with the wrong men and too much drama.
