Review by Booklist Review

This installment in the Wow in the World series (based on the podcast of the same name) presents a bevy of animal facts with great flair and variety. Colorful cartoon antics, interspersed with occasional photos of animals, accompany short, humorous passages of text in a mix of formats, from mini-comics, interviews, and interactive quizzes to parodies of advertisements, menus, self-help books, and more. The book is divided into animal groups, including birds, reptiles, amphibians, land mammals, sea creatures, and creepy-crawlies. Whether the authors (who are depicted throughout as cartoon figures) are covering traditional animal information, like habitats and adaptations, or more unusual topics, like marsupial pouches and animal poop, the result is always zany. Continuing this approach, the final section focuses on endangered species and conservation efforts while brief breaks between sections highlight wild trivia, such as the planet's most famous pink animals. Appended QR codes allow readers to follow up with related Wow in the World podcast episodes. A fun dip into science that will appeal most to browsers and visual learners.
