Bright colors and beautiful, crisp photos instantly catch the eye in this introduction to birds. Each spread highlights a common avian physical feature (feathers, wings, beak) or behavior (flying, chirping, eating) through a combination of simple text (frequently with onomatopoeia), striking illustrations, and a playful tone. The main sentence, printed in a large font, conveys the primary concept, while additional, slightly high-level information appears in a yellow fact bubble. The accompanying photo always supports the text and identifies the bird species shown. A final spread invites little ones to interact with the book through simple activities, and it also serves as a photo glossary.

PreS-K--Vibrant close-up photographs bring readers directly into the world of birds in this introductory informational book. As the high quality details of the visuals attract the eye, older readers can guide toddlers and other listeners through the uncluttered structure of supporting captions and labels about the habits and features of different types of birds. VERDICT An ideal version of a child's first connections to the natural world.
