Review by Booklist Review
When Zora finds free zucchini seedlings on her summer walk, she brings them home and plants them in her yard. All summer long, Zora and her family learn to prepare the zucchini in new and clever ways, but eventually her patch grows more zucchini than they can eat. Ever resourceful, Zora sets up an outdoor table, inviting her neighbors to "take a veggie, leave a veggie" (this illustration's text remains in English). Everyone comes ready to trade strawberries, lettuce, and more. By story's end, Zora has learned the importance of growing, harvesting, and, above all, sharing food. Raff's appealing watercolor illustrations are soft and inviting, and an author's note explains the "Donate, Preserve, Share" concepts behind growing gardens. The translation's well-chosen Spanish is simple to read aloud in a classroom or storytime setting.
