Review by Booklist Review

This is an exciting installment in Calvert's Crisis Team series, following By Your Side (2015). ER nurse and crisis volunteer Taylor Cabot is trying to finally put her life back together after being widowed. The sudden return of crisis chaplain Seth Donovan, however, throws Taylor out of whack. When a series of incidents requires that they work closely together, the two old friends confront an uncomfortable past beneath their camaraderie. Taylor must sort through the end stages of her grief over her husband, but she senses Seth knows more about his death than he lets on. Seth struggles as well with his sense of obligation to his family, with his religious calling and career, and with how to handle his mounting attraction to Taylor. Calvert's firsthand knowledge of working in medicine makes Step by Step especially compelling. The difficulties Taylor and Seth face as they begin to build their futures are relatable, and readers will be eager to see Seth and Taylor grapple with their issues to become stronger and happier on the other side.--Richard, Carolyn Copyright 2016 Booklist
