The Delish kids (super-awesome, crazy-fun, best-ever) cookbook

Joanna Saltz

Book - 2021

"This best-ever kids' cookbook from Delish is filled with recipes that make cooking so much fun. Throughout young chefs will learn basic skills, like how to make the gooey grilled cheese (the secret: use a waffle iron!) and upgrade your favorite store-bought foods (Chicken Nuggets! Woohoo!). Chapters include recipes for breakfast (Banana Split Oatmeal!), snacks (Cool Ranch Chickpeas!), lunches and dinners (Chorizo Tacos, Hot Dog Cubanos, and Best-Ever Fettucine Alfredo... do we need to say more?!), and party eats. Plus, two whole chapters include restaurant copycat recipes and desserts and snacks inspired by beloved pop culture characters."--Amazon.ca.

Review by School Library Journal Review

Gr 2--6--This cookbook is appealing from the start with a cover featuring rainbow cookie bars with bright sprinkles. The book has more than 100 recipes and full-color pictures of each one. There is a cooking glossary at the beginning and a helpful difficulty ratings scale. There are also fun historical tidbits scattered throughout, like the history of cinnamon rolls and tacos. "Cooking with Grandma" segments highlight food from across the globe and feature a brief article about the Grandma providing the recipe. The recipes are fun and there are some unusual ones in the group. The book is divided into sections, with standards such as Breakfast, Snacks, Lunchtime, and Dinner. Notable is the Fantastics section, which features food inspired by pop culture icons like Mickey Mouse and Minions. Kids will like the Captain Cookie Cake that honors Captain America and the Disney recipes will appeal to Disney fans of all ages. The recipes are interesting and the photography is top-notch. VERDICT A great choice for any library or home cookbook shelf! It would also make an excellent gift for aspiring chefs.--Jami Livingston, Adair County P.L., Kirksville, MO
