The Mercenary Librarians, bioengineered supersoldiers and genetic geniuses who went rogue from the ubiquitous TechCorps (see Deal with the Devil, 2020), are surprised to find that the cargo they're seizing from a biotech company is a cloned child, and that there are more somewhere in Atlanta. Maya's beyond-eidetic memory is useful to the team and to their community, but it doesn't help her fighting skills. Until Gray, the sullen sharpshooter, trains her to use her sensory recall for kicking ass. Often overwhelmed by her senses, Maya has no problem being overwhelmed by Gray, but he's living on borrowed time, and the last thing he wants to do is leave the heart of their little mercenary family heartbroken. To get the full effect of the secondary plots and team in-fighting (which looks a lot like flirting), readers will want to start at the beginning of the series. This sequel has all of the action, smolder, snark, and surprising warmth of the first, with more development of a postapocalyptic Atlanta that is slowly finding its feet again--with the help of the Mercenary Librarians.
