Spending six weeks with her former mother-in-law, Margaret, isn't something Sarah Anderson is looking forward to, especially knowing that Margaret blames Sarah for the untimely death of her son, Sean. But after Sarah receives a letter from Margaret's attorney stating that Margaret will sue for custody of Sarah's two young sons if Sarah doesn't agree to the visit, Sarah has no choice. Upon arriving at Margaret's ranch, Sarah must overcome Margaret's resentment and bitterness toward her and ensure that the boys build a loving relationship with their grandmother. This is difficult for Sarah--she is carrying Sean's secrets, which could ruin Margaret's memory of him. While on the ranch, Sarah meets Margaret's attorney, Luke Thompson. Neither is what the other expected, and they definitely never expected to fall in love. Ryan's (The Kitchen Front, 2021) novel is a contemporary women's-fiction novel that explores grief, family secrets, and finding love again. Though the novel is marred by sometimes repetitive writing and a too-perfect heroine, fans of the author may not mind any of that in this breezy tale.
