K-Gr 3--An engaging nonfiction easy reader for anyone interested in learning about the sport of gymnastics, this book provides basic information and vivid photographs. It starts with a short narrative that describes what readers may see in a gym that hosts gymnasts and then quickly takes them back in time to explain the history of the sport. The brief and simple chapters are then broken down into fun titles such as "In It to Win It" and "Get in Gear" and thoroughly explaining the terminology, different events in the sport, as well as the type of training and commitment needed. Each page has attractive bubbles that include a term and definition, fact, or even a question-and-answer that is a fun gymnastics joke. It is a solid easy reader as difficult words are phonetically spelled out to assist readers and the terminology is defined and made easily accessible. There is a simple "Quiz Whiz" in the back to assess comprehension of the story. VERDICT Highly recommended for easy reader nonfiction sections, this is a solid introduction to reading nonfiction text or research for a project.--Kristen Todd-Wurm, Middle Country P.L., NY
