Review by Booklist Review
Gracie Cooper gave up dreams of becoming an artist to run her family's champagne shop, Bubbles & More, but she could never shake her dream of fairy-tale romance. She's met The One, sort of, on the dating app MysteryMate. She only knows Sir through the messages they share, but she's falling in love. It's a necessary bright spot when the unfortunately sexy Sebastian Andrews, whose family company owns Bubbles & More's building, tells her he wants to tear down the building. Gracie is not interested in moving. She does her best to deny the spark between them while her relationship with Sir starts getting more complicated. Layne (Marriage on Madison Avenue, 2020) updates the Nora Ephron 1998 rom-com, You've Got Mail, for digital-age Manhattan in a tale full of quirky staff at the champagne store, a family who takes Gracie for granted, and a caterer best friend with killer red lipstick. Sweet and full of humor, this romance is low on steam but high on charm, and readers will be rooting for Gracie to find her Prince Charming.

Layne (Marriage on Madison Avenue) crafts a gleefully shameless homage to Little Shop Around the Corner and You've Got Mail that sparkles like champagne fizz. Onetime aspiring artist Gracie Cooper reluctantly took over her family's Manhattan champagne shop, Bubbles & More, after her father's death. The "more" includes an art corner where she pedals her whimsical prints of colorful cocktails and New York City scenes--which bring in the only revenue keeping the struggling business afloat. Gracie's flirtatious, text-based relationship with "Sir," an anonymous and unavailable guy she met on a dating app under her own moniker, "Lady," keeps her spirits up--so she's conflicted by the instant zing of attraction she feels upon meeting Sebastian Andrews, and even more so once she learns that he's a developer looking to buy out her lease. Rom-com fans will see the resolution of this love triangle coming from a mile away, but it's so fun that they won't mind. Layne grounds her Manhattan fairy tale by surrounding Gracie with supportive friends and family who advise her to step out of her comfort zone and take a chance on love. This is a delight. Gracie Cooper is torn between the mysterious "Sir" she met on a text-only dating app, and the posh Sebastian Andrews, who is trying to buy out the lease on her family business. As much as she wants to hate Sebastian, she can't help but enjoy his company. He even shows up to the special events she's planned to try and drum up more business for her little shop. On the days Sebastian frustrates Gracie most, she can turn to Sir, who will talk her back down. Gracie realizes that at some point she will need to stop living in a fantasy world, and come to terms with the facts--that the shop isn't doing as well as she hoped; that her life isn't what she wanted it to be; that she needs more than just the two half-relationships she has with Sir and Sebastian. Layne's (Passion on Park Avenue) newest contemporary romance features a classic enemies-to-lovers plot and plenty of banter. The side characters, including Gracie's siblings and employees, add an extra spark to this already charming tale. VERDICT A first-tier purchase, especially for libraries where romantic comedies are popular.--Amanda Toth, Lane Lib., Hamilton, OH
