An unlikely match

Beth Wiseman, 1962-

Book - 2021

When sparks fly between a good Amish girl and a hunky member of the Hollywood elite, even matchmaking innkeepers Esther and Lizzie know better than to fan the flames. Evelyn Schrock has dismissed the attempts of every young man in her small Amish community to court her. She's willing to wait for a suitor who shares her curiosities about life and faith. The only reason Jayce Clarkson is in Amish country hefting equipment for his famous father's movie production company is for the paycheck. The homestyle cooking at the Peony Inn is a perk though, as is his friendship with Evelyn Schrock. If Jayce can endure his dad's put-downs for a month, he'll finally be in a position to make a fresh start--somewhere away from th...e hustle and bustle of Los Angeles and the shadow of his checkered past. To matchmakers Esther and Lizzie, the widowed sisters who operate the inn, Jayce seems like a good man stuck in a life he doesn't want. But the boy isn't Amish, and that leaves far too much room for broken hearts. Despite that, Jayce and Evelyn start to realize that they can't deny their growing attraction. Any path forward seems impossible, and they will have to learn what the future will look like when they leave their fate in Gott's hands. "From beloved bestselling author Beth Wiseman comes the second novel in the Amish Inn series-charming, sweet stories about two widowed innkeeping sisters who are determined to help their guests find love"--

Review by Publisher's Weekly Review

The glowing second in Wiseman's Amish Inn series (after A Picture of Love) features elderly sisters Esther and Lizzie, who run the Peony Inn and enjoy a bit of surreptitious matchmaking. When a movie production company books rooms at the inn, Esther and Lizzie are soon worn out by the crew's obnoxious behavior, including the producer's constant berating of his young adult son, Jayce. Jayce wants nothing more than to get away from his father and the film crew's party lifestyle after finding faith in God. He befriends the sisters and forms an unlikely friendship with Gus, a friend of Esther and Lizzie's who has a reputation for being mean and grumpy. As Gus helps Jayce develop his relationship with God, Esther and Lizzie realize he has a good heart despite his surliness. Jayce also develops romantic feelings for Evelyn, a young Amish girl he meets at the Peony Inn. He and Evelyn, though being nothing alike on the surface, share many long conversations about faith and come to realize their shared values. With multiple vibrant story lines, Wiseman's excellent tale will have readers anticipating the next. Any fan of Amish romance will love this. (June)
