Book - 2021

When helicopter medic Daniel Bliant answers an emergency call at Phil's Bar, he can't believe who the bartender is: the beautiful woman he saw in his ER months before and hasn't been able to stop thinking about. He should forget her. After all, he knows he's damaged goods. But Annika is intelligent, fun and totally stunning--the breath of life he desperately needs after the incident that left him shattered. Annika Mehta is doing just fine. She loves her job as a kindergarten teacher, even if the pay is low and she has a side gig working at Phil's. At least the bar owners are more like family. Sure, she's reeling from a bad breakup and the terrible event that caused it, but she's fine. Really. What she does...n't need is Daniel. He's wrong for her in every single way--so why is their chemistry off the charts?

Annika Mehta is trying to move on. After a disastrous breakup that occurred the same night she miscarried, she's throwing herself into her work as a kindergarten teacher and reconnecting with her family. The last thing she wants to do is remember the worst night of her life. Medic Daniel Bliant remembers it clearly. He was on duty at the hospital where Annika was admitted and can't get her out of his mind. When they reconnect during an incident at the bar where Annika works part-time, they feel the zing of attraction right away. Though Daniel wants to be with Annika, his mental health is still wobbly after losing his daughter and his subsequent divorce. Together Annika and Daniel try to face the past in order to create a future. Shroff (Then, Now, Always, 2020) deals with some heavy topics--gun violence, racism, and issues around alcohol, to name a few--while also delving into Annika's Indian heritage and Daniel's multicultural background. Watching them heal from their traumas while navigating a new relationship is an engrossing experience.
